School work re-imagined!
The Dekko technique encourages children to focus on the things they love. It shows them how to be creative and have fun with subject matter that they might struggle to engage with. Dekko’s educational comics turn school curriculum content into engaging and accessible material, helping to smash barriers to reading and learning. The comics are colourful, funny and especially helpful to visual learners and those living with dyslexia, ADHD and autism.
At Dekko Comics we were very excited to be asked to deliver a webinar with Lexplore Analytics, especially as we celebrate and encourage reading too!
One of our key aims here is to turn KS2 curriculum school subjects into entertaining short comic stories. They utilise entertainment as a communication tool, for information and this approach can be especially helpful for learning support too.
We believe that making reading fun and non-threatening encourages all children to read more, including neurodivergent readers and those who speak English as an additional language. We have worked with Dr Anne Margaret Smith previously and we were delighted to hear during her recent webinar that she also valued Dekko Comics as a great way to teach reading to our EAL learners.
The Dekko technique encourages children to focus on the things they love. It shows them how to be creative and have fun with subject matter that they might struggle to engage with. We are so proud that our comics are being used in many schools across the UK, as well as internationally!
Rossie Stone is our founder and he discovered this method of learning while struggling at school, having been identified with dyslexia himself. Since school, he has graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, started Dekko Comics, held TEDx talks and workshops across the UK.
His energy and belief in our message to all readers gives our team it’s great energy and drive! In our upcoming webinar with Lexplore Analytics Roddie will explore the benefits of learning in a creative, fun way, re-imagining school work! These challenging times have shown that new ways of learning and making the learning experience as fun as possible can be great ways to keep our children engaged and coming back for more.
